Bake Sale / Used Book Sale November 2014

Thursday – November 13, 2014

The PA will host a bake/book sale during Parent-Teacher conferences!

Please visit us in the “BLUE” wing of the school and purchase a treat and/or a book for your child and yourself.

We are looking for monetary donations, donations of baked goods (cupcakes, cookies, etc) and volunteers to assist with this event.  If you are able to donate monetarily or a baked item and/or volunteer your time, please return the tear off no later than Monday – November 10, 2014.

If you will donate a baked item – please NO NUTS!

Please bring your donation to the PA office in the morning when you bring your child to school or drop it off when you pick your child up at dismissal.

There will also be a “gently used” book sale.

Prices will start at .50¢ per book.

For those families that sold candy during our fall fundraiser, you will be able to pick up your order during Parent-Teacher conferences in the “PINK” wing of the school.

P.S. 193 Namesake Gil Hodges and the Baseball Hall of Fame

We have received a letter from Bill Hall, a fan of PS 193’s namesake, Gil Hodges. Gil Hodges becomes eligible for election to the Baseball Hall of Fame this year for the first time in three years. A group of fans from around the country have started a petition on the iPetitions website, and they have a Facebook group that is helping to spread the word. In ten weeks, they’ve gathered more than 1,200 signatures, including a lot of prominent people (ex-major league players, broadcasters, writers and baseball historians).

Let’s help induct Gil Hodges into the Hall of Fame by signing the petition! It might also be a good opportunity for a teacher to use a non-controversial issue to demonstrate to students tools for communications and advocacy; since our school is named after Gil Hodges, it might also be an opportunity for the kids to learn more about who he was and why he is honored in this way.

UFT 1st Annual 5K Family Run and Walk this weekend

Dear Friends,

An invitation from Ms. Siwinski, CIG 2-403

The United Federeation of Teachers Middle School Division invites you to participate in its 1st annual 5K Family Run on Saturday, May 10!

This race will not be timed. You can run/walk as an individual or as part of a team. We will have complimentary water, snacks and giveaways for each race participant as well as raffle prizes.

The proceeds from this event will go to the UFT Disaster Relief Fund, which helps UFT members and has contributed thousands of dollars to relief operations following natural disasters in Haiti, Japan, the Philippines and our own area in 2012 following Hurricane Sandy. The fee to participate is $25 for adults and $15 for children age 12 or younger.

You can sponsor a participant by making an online donation to the UFT Disaster Relief Fund.
